Panchang or literally means Pancha + Anga = Five Angas i.e. Panchang. This is what Hindus call calendar or Kaldarshak according to the method of time-counting. The name Panchang is due to it being made up of five major parts, which are as follows, Tithi, Vaar, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana. On the basis of its calculation, there are three sections of the Hindu calendar, first lunar based, second constellation based and third sun based calendar system.

Tithi: According to the Hindu calendar, the time taken for the lunar inclination to move 12 degrees above the Sun line is called Tithi. Date Name - Pratipada, Dwitiya, Tritiya, Chaturthi, Panchami, Shashthi, Saptami, Ashtami, Navami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Dwadashi, Trayodashi, Chaturdashi, Amavasya/Purnima.
Var: The period from one sunrise to the sunrise of the next day is called Vaar. There are seven strikes. 1. Sunday, 2. Monday, 3. Tuesday, 4. Wednesday, 5. Thursday, 6. Friday and 7. Saturday.
Nakshatra: A group of stars in the sky is called a constellation. It consists of 27 nakshatras and nine planets are owned by these nakshatras. The names of the 27 constellations are as follows: Ashwin Nakshatra, Bharani Nakshatra, Kritika Nakshatra, Rohini Nakshatra, Mrigashira Nakshatra, Ardra Nakshatra, Punyasutra Nakshatra, Pushya Nakshatra, Ashlesha Nakshatra, Magha Nakshatra, Magha Nakshatra, Poorva Nakshatra, Poorva Nakshatra, Poorva Nakshatra. Vishaka Nakshatra, Anuradha Nakshatra, Jyestha Nakshatra, Mool Nakshatra, Poorvashadha Nakshatra, Uttarashada Nakshatra, Shravan Nakshatra, Gand Nakshatra, Shatabhisha Nakshatra, Poorvabhadrapada Nakshatra, Poorva Nakshatra.
Yoga: Yoga is formed by the combination of Sun and Moon, these are also 27. Their names are as follows- 1. Vishkumbh, 2. Preeti, 3. Ayushman, 4. Saubhagya, 5. Shobhan, 6. Atigund, 7. Sukarma, 8. Ghriti, 9. Shool, 10. Gand, 11. Growth, 12. Dhrav, 13. Vyaghata, 14. Harshal, 15. Vaka, 16. Siddhi, 17. Vyatipat, 18. Variyan, 19. Paridhi, 20. Shiva, 21. Siddha, 22. Sadhya, 23. Auspicious, 24. Shukla, 25. Brahma, 26. Indra, 27. Vaighriti.
Karan: There are two Karanas on Tithi. In the first part of a date and in the latter part of a date. There are a total of 11 Karanas whose names are as follows - Bava, Balava, Kaulava, Taitil, Gar, Vanij, Vishati, Shakuni, Chatushpad, Nag and Kistaghan. Vishti Karan is called Bhadra and auspicious work is considered forbidden in Bhadra.
The basic purpose of Hindu Panchang is to select auspicious moments for various Hindu festivals and check Shubh Muhurta for various reasons.
